ECFanGrid Retrofit Fan Replacement

What is ECFanGrid?

Picture Name

The ECFanGrid consists of several EC fans running in parallel in a kind of fan wall. The volume flow is proportional to the number of fans, while the pressure conditions remain unchanged. The EC fans used are not only highly efficient, but as a perfectly matched unit (electronics, motor and impeller), they can also provide a simple plug-and-play solution for almost any ventilation requirement.

In addition, multiple controllable fans can better adapt to the actual air performance required, thereby improving the efficiency of each operating point.

ECFanGrid retrofit system is particularly suitable for replacing old, inefficient belt-driven fans in ventilation units. It doesn't matter which brand you use. The retrofit system is flexible and always suitable!

From fans to switch cabinets and adaptive sheet metal parts, all components come from our own production and are part of Rosenberg every ECFanGrid transformation system.

Advantages of ECFanGrid transformation system

Picture Name

» Energy Saving

Outdated fans are one of the main reasons for the excessive energy consumption of existing HVAC systems. In contrast, modern energy-saving fans can easily achieve 70% system efficiency, and components can save up to 50% of energy.

Picture Name

» Easy installation

ECFanGrid are ideal for retrofitting existing HVAC equipment, especially when a single large centrifugal fan is to be replaced. Due to the small size of its components, ECFanGrid can be brought into the building and installed by one or two people through standard doors.

» Easy to maintain

Compared with traditional belt-driven fans, the floor area covered by the ECFanGrid is relatively large, and the ECFanGrid is completely floorless. This means that it is more efficient to maintain hygiene within the air handler group. Since there is no longer belt wear, dust will not be released into the supply air.

» "Reliability

ECFanGrid provides reliability due to its "built-in" redundancy. In the event of a fan failure, only this part of the airflow will be lost. This loss of airflow is then fully automatically compensated for by increasing the speed of all other fans.

Project Details

Whether in airports, public buildings, office buildings, production workshops or hotels, ECFanGrid can be used for long-term use of old air handling units. Here, we show you a small number of fan replacement projects that have been implemented.

The five-star hotel in Berlin INTERCONTINENTAL the ECFanGrid renovation of BERLIN: during the renovation of the large conference rooms, four old ventilation systems are equipped with the new EC technology. ECFanGrids used in various arrangements, the existing cross-section of an existing AHU is always adapted in a good way. The technical room where the AHU is located is very cramped. Thanks to the compact design of the ECFanGrid Retrofit, the upgrade is still easy to implement.

At an airport in Germany, an air handling unit replaced an old belt-driven fan. The new ECFanGrid fans control the air volume of 50,000 cubic meters per hour in the relevant public areas of the terminal. The ECFanGrid control cabinet system acts as a central connection point for all fans. In addition, there is more even flow to downstream components such as filters and heat exchangers. In addition, the baffle of the belt-driven fan is eliminated, thereby greatly reducing the pressure loss. Energy efficiency has improved by 44%, and about 40 tons of CO2 can now be saved every year. The fan can be replaced in just five days. The payback period for this retrofit example is only 2.3 years.

Replace the old double belt drive fan in the roof-mounted air handling unit of an automotive supplier office building with a supply air flow rate of 27,800 m³/h. The fan uses one motor to drive two impellers simultaneously. Both bearings are lubricated. Over time, the whole system becomes unbalanced. This creates a large gap between the impeller and the cone, resulting in a significant reduction in the efficiency of the fan. Replacement not only optimizes energy efficiency, but also optimizes the ability of the entire system in terms of pressure loss, cleanliness, maintenance and balance. The system was replaced in only 2 days. The payback period is 3.1 years.

Retrofit of the old axial fan of the theater. After years of operation, after one blade is broken, the replacement of the entire fan becomes urgent. Because the machine room is located in the basement, replacing the bulky fan becomes a challenge. For this reason, it is necessary for the customer that the replacement will be much easier in the future. The new ECFanGrid system with a volume flow of 130,000 m³/h is a good choice because two people can handle all components. The installation is carried out by ordinary stairs and elevators to transport the materials to the site. Due to structural conditions, access doors are integrated instead of partitions. This also reflects the flexibility of the ECFanGrid retrofit system.

Replacing large belt-driven fans with ECFanGrid in hospitals. The airflow through the rectangular duct (5.9 meters wide and 2.0 meters high) is more evenly distributed, thereby improving the efficiency of downstream components such as filters and heat exchangers. Another important point is hygiene. Due to the installation of the ECFanGrid, the belt drive is no longer worn. In addition, the mechanical structure-the floor is freely accessible-significantly improves cleanability.

A belt-driven fan with a volumetric flow of 25,700 m³/h was retrofitted in the administrative building of a German television station. In the photo, the two old rails of the old fan are still clearly visible on the floor. The fan bounces are mounted on these rails. The ECFanGrid system is very balanced, even if the fan is firmly installed, the air handling unit will not vibrate. Balanced according to DIN ISO 21940-11 quality class G2.5 or G6.3, depending on impeller size. In order to comply with the VDI 6022 standard, it was previously necessary to install a second filter stage (belt wear dust) behind the belt-driven fan. After modification, the filter stage can be removed, thereby reducing the pressure loss of the system, thereby further saving energy.
